South Parade .... Now M G Road

Above is picture of South Parade.. Now M G Road.
Noted shopping centres in the 1920's were Commercial Street, South Parade ( now referred to as M.G. Road ), St.Mark's Road (the shopping block was what is now India Garage), and Brigade Road, all near each other. Commercial has still kept it's remarkable business for all classes of people, and one could get practically anything at these places. One could find the European shops on South Parade, a few on St. Mark's Road and Brigade Road. There was an Evening Bazaar and a Gooj where one could pick up all kinds of commodities like used clothes, cameras, and almost any imaginable article, some almost new and at about one-tenth of it's original price. The Gooj even today, is still a very interesting place to visit, but one has to keep an eye on one's purse and also not be tricked into buying some real junk.

Cars in Bangalore

Observe something?? The licence plate shows BAN565 suggests that there
were under 1000 cars in Bangalore in 1946.

Old Bangalore - Mayo Hall

This is the Mayo hall. It sure looks much more regal than what it does today.
It houses the Courts and was apparently also one of the main Police Station jails.

Old Bangalore - St. Marks Road

This strong stone building is now only known as the Oriental Building( presently houses the LIC)
and is at the intersection of MG Road ( then called as, South Parade) and St. Marks Road.

There apparently was a large circle at this juncture as can be seen in the photograph.
The road you are looking at is St. Marks Road

The above picture is of Hosur Road. The present day electronics, IT and BPO Hub.

Old Bangalore - BRIGADE ROAD

Golden days ....Will they come back............?
does this frame look familiar??? it should

this is the BRIGADE ROAD.

The left hand side building is still standing, and housed the Ashok Electricals, the Post Office, now it is the LEE and Luis Phillips showroom.

The road hasn't got any bigger, but the traffic and the crowd definitely has.
